The Ramazan 7v7 League 2025 is dedicated to the memory of Mohamed Arif (Baka), one of the greatest footballers the Maldives has ever seen. His contributions to the sport, both on and off the field, have left a lasting impact on Maldivian football.
A Career Defined by Excellence
Born on August 11, 1985, in Hithadhoo, Addu City, Mohamed Arif’s journey in football began at a young age. He made his professional debut in 2004 with Island FC, and from there, he embarked on an illustrious career spanning nearly two decades. His skill, vision, and leadership saw him play for some of the top clubs in the Maldives, including VB Sports Club, Club Valencia, New Radiant SC, Maziya S&RC, and United Victory, among others.
His international career was just as remarkable, representing the Maldives National Team for a decade. He played a vital role in securing the SAFF Championship titles in 2008 and 2018, moments that will forever be etched in Maldivian football history.
His Last Tournament – A Final Display of Passion
Even as his professional career wound down, Arif’s love for football never faded. In 2024, he participated in the Milo 7v7 Championship – Veterans/Masters, organized by MS Mates. This was his final tournament, where he played a crucial role in leading MS Mates to victory. His presence on the field was a testament to his unwavering passion for the game, his tactical intelligence, and his ability to inspire those around him.
A Tribute to a Legend
Arif’s passing on June 25, 2024, was a heartbreaking loss to the Maldivian football community. His legacy, however, continues to live on in the hearts of his fans, teammates, and the many young players who look up to him as an icon.
To honor his memory, we are dedicating the Ramazan 7v7 League 2025 to Mohamed Arif. This tournament will serve as a tribute to his dedication, sportsmanship, and love for the game.
As we gather to celebrate football, we remember Baka, not just as a player but as a legend whose legacy will inspire generations to come.
